Tignes

Ski Holidays In Tignes

The resort of Tignes is made up of five smaller villages (Tignes Val Claret, Tignes le Lac, Le Lavachet, Tignes Les Boisses/Tignes 1800 and Tignes-les-Brévières), with a free bus service flitting frequently between them.

The highest of the villages, Tignes Val Claret is nested on the mountainside at 2100m with pisted runs stretching to a height of 3656m. Tignes Val Claret has staked itself as one of the highest ski resorts in Europe, meaning it is almost unmatched in snow reliability. As such, we are able to offer ski holidays in Tignes from early December right through to the beginning of May. Even in a disappointing season, when the snow is thin on the ground in resort, the Grand Motte glacier can be relied upon to provide an exhilarating day of skiing. This promise of guaranteed white stuff makes ski holidays in Tignes a popular option.

Together with it’s swankier neighbour, Val d'Isere (which is just one short lift away), Tignes forms the renowned Espace Killy ski area. With beginner slopes, 300km of pisted runs for the intermediates and a vast expanse of off-piste just waiting to be tracked out by the more advanced adrenalin junkies.

Tignes is a lively and family-friendly resort with endless opportunities for fun both on and off the mountain, with a great ski area, various different activities in the different villages and good après-ski in the larger villages (Val Claret, Le Lac).

Skiing In Tignes

The high altitude and the gift of two glaciers in the Espace Killy area mean that, no matter how bad the snow seems in resort you are guaranteed to have a great snow-filled day on the piste. With the Espace Killy ski area providing 300km of groomed pistes and Tignes alone having 154km, there is something suited for every ability.

Tignes Val Claret boasts an impressive snow park with relatively modest kickers for those wanting to practise and perfect their freestyle, but for the big air and the kick-ass black kickers the Val d’Isere park is where you want to be. Even if you’re not brave enough to hit them yourself, it always provides some jaw-dropping spectatorship.

What sets Tignes apart from other resorts in the freestyle department is it’s famous half pipe. Originally carved for the winter X games, the Superpipe has provided air to some of the biggest legends in recent snowsports history.

If it’s speed you are after then check out the Sache run (famed as the most difficult run in the whole of the Espace Killy), 10km of pant-wetting black run which leads you straight from the ‘eye of the needle’ and down into Tignes le Brevieres. However, if you’re looking for something a little more gentle head for the Grande Motte, a 6.5km of wide sweeping blue, moving through an elevation of 1300m from top to bottom.

The fact that Tignes and Val d’Isere are so close together and tightly knitted means it’s easy to find yourself whizzing from an altitude of 3656m in the clouds of Tignes, past the Folie Douce, down into the enchanted forest tree runs of Val d’Isere.

Transfers to Tignes

Ben’s Bus offers shared Tignes Airport Transfers and are almost certainly the cheapest way of getting from the airport to Tignes.

Alternatively, private transfers are an option, they tend to be more expensive but you get a door to door service and there's no waiting around at the airport. For groups of 8 (which is the sweet spot for minibus transfers) it wouldn't be too different in price to shared.
