One of the prettiest, most idyllic resorts in the Alps, this winter wonderland that is Les Arcs has become hugely popular with families and large groups alike. With a huge assortment of long cruising ski runs and some of France’s most satisfying tree trail skiing, Ski holidays in Les Arcs appeal to all abilities from total beginners to advanced off-piste junkies.

As a resort, Les Arcs has four main bases at 1600m (Arc 1600), 1800m (Arc 1800), the new luxury 1950m resort (Arc 1950) and Arc 2000 with a shuttle bus running between them all. The funiculaire that runs from Bourg Saint Maurice in the valley up to Arc 1600m, or the alternative 30 minute drive up the mountain, makes it a hugely accessible resort and hence very popular.

Skiing In Les Arcs

Skiing in Les Arcs, more than any other resort in the French Alps, gives you a real sense of adventure and travel. The long trails of Les Arcs which wind through villages and forests seem to really take you on a journey. It is very different from the standard up the lift, down the slope sensation you may find elsewhere. For a prime example of this, try the 2km descent from the Aiguille Rouge glacier right down into the forests of Villaroger.

The snowpark in Les Arcs is a good one and has secured it’s place as a season favourite for many pros. The community of pro boarders that flock to the park daily makes for some mind blowing spectating. If you fancy hitting the park yourself you will be in for a treat, with all the usual kickers and rails, a spine jump, and even a gap-jump for the real daredevils among us. If you don’t feel quite ready to hit those yet, then brush up first on the airbag.

Just below the park at L’Arpette restaurant (the mecca for apres-ski partiers) is the water splash. This is where, in the warmer easter weeks you can have a go at picking up your speed down the slope and gliding, gracefully over a stretch of water. If you don’t fancy the risk of falling in, sit by the side in the deckchairs with a beer and laugh at the hopefuls making a splash.



Les Arcs is a part of the Paradiski area, a vast ski area with 425km of piste. With the Aiguille Rouge glacier, treelines of Peisey-Vallandry and access to La Plagne (via a hugely impressive double-decker cable car), when you are skiing Les Arcs the scenery is constantly changing and you won’t find yourself limited to doing the same routes over and over again

Accommodation In Les Arcs

Accommodation in Les Arcs varies greatly over the different villages. For a much quieter, more relaxed feel and quick access to the town in Bourg Saint Maurice choose Arc 1600. Party-goers would be foolish to head anywhere other than 1800 but if it’s luxury you’re after then the newly built Arc 1950 is for you. The more advanced skiers who are here for some serious piste-time tend to head to Arc 2000 for the doorstep skiing and immediate access to the famous Aiguille Rouge glacier.

When choosing accommodation in Les Arcs for a family holiday it may be wiser to choose Arc 1600 or Arc 1950 as these are the more ‘family-orientated’ resorts; everything seems to have been designed with family holidays in mind, with the ski schools, shops and restaurants clustered tightly together. At the slightly quieter resorts you are also guaranteed to get a more satisfying night’s sleep. 1800 is buzzing well into the night, which can make getting up for ski school a bit of a struggle. Ideally located with the slopes only 50m away, it's a fantastic location to explore all that the vast Paradiski ski area offers. A highlight of this residence is the free access guests have to the onsite "relaxation area", which has an indoor swimming pool, a sensory pool with jets, a sauna, and a fitness room.

Apres Ski In Les Arcs

If you’re looking for some serious partying then make sure you head to Arc 1800. Apres ski in Les Arcs goes above and beyond, whether it be banging outdoor raves in the middle of town or rocking live music in the Red Hot Saloon.

Every bar in Les Arcs is constantly rammed full of partiers, proof of how good the vibe is. When the bars kick out there is a choice of 2 different nightclubs to flit between, given that 1800 is such a tiny resort and both nightclubs are packed full every night until the not-so-early hours, this is testament to how seriously they take their partying.

For the families there is also a shed load of apres activity, why not try whizzing down the brand new toboggan run, swimming in the multiple new swimming pools or checking out a film at the cinema?

Transfer to Les Arcs

Ben’s Bus offers shared Les Arcs Airport Transfers and are almost certainly the cheapest way of getting from the airport to Les Arcs.

Alternatively, private transfers are an option, they tend to be more expensive but you get a door to door service and there's no waiting around at the airport. For groups of 8 (which is the sweet spot for minibus transfers) it wouldn't be too different in price to shared.
