France has long been the country of choice for Britains heading over to the Alps for a skiing break on the slopes. Although historically slightly behind neighbouring countries in the development of it’s wonderful ski resorts - France today boasts some of the finest, and most famous ski resorts in the world. In decades gone by, the development of many French ski resorts was rather industrial, with high rise tower hotels and apartment blocks being favoured over more traditional ski resort architecture, however in recent years - the architecture and design of French Ski Resorts has returned to a traditional, yet functional appearance, with work being done across many of the resorts to make them more aesthetically pleasing.
The Ski Resorts in France vary from some of the most affordable in Europe, right across to some of the most exclusive ski resorts in the world. A good example of an affordable, French Ski Resort is Val Thorens - which has been voted the best ski resort in the world - many many times. At the other end of the scale is Courchevel, an incredibly exclusive resorts featuring traditional buildings, and luxury on every corner. In between, are resorts such as Meribel, chamonix, Avoriaz and Morzine - which all make for fantastic ski resorts to visit.
Some of the most famous ski resorts include the Three Valleys (largest linked ski area in the world) as well as Portes du Soleil ski area which encompasses ski resorts such as Avoriaz, and Morzine. The resort of Chamonix also boasts an excellent ski area, which neighbours the stunning Mont Blanc. Another couple of ski areas and resorts which deserve a mention is the excellent Paradiski ski area, joining both La Plagne and Les Arcs - which are linked by a massive cable car. The Espace Killy, which links Val d’Isere and Tignes - is also a ski area which needs to be visited.
