Ski Holidays in Alpe d'Huez

Alpe d’Huez is a large French ski resort, which is part of the Grandes Rousses Massif ski area. Alpe d’Huez offers a good range of runs for skiers of all types and ability. It is a particularly good place to learn to ski and hone your skills but is also the perfect destination for groups with mixed abilities.

The après ski is great too with a wide range of entertainment available that is suitable for all ages, but it is the fantastic skiing that brings people back year after year.

Skiing in Alpe d'Huez

This beautiful skiing area offers something for everyone, no matter what level of skier/snowboarder you are, you will find what you are looking for in Alpe d’Huez. Intermediate skiers are especially well catered for; the 16km Sarenne run is the longest, but the easiest black run in the Alps, it is perfect for those intermediate skiers who are ready to step up to skiing black runs. If you are a thrill-seeker Le Tunnel is fantastic, it is a tough but exhilarating black run that will push you to the limit.

Alpe d’Huez is a fantastic resort for snowboarders; there are two extensive terrain parks and plenty of places to go off-piste, making it ideal for those who enjoy freeriding. For beginners, there is a dedicated area with simple boxes, rails, kickers where you can learn the basic tricks and techniques. Experienced boarders can test their skills on the awesome Skier X World Championship course. From here, you have the option to hop across to Les Deux Alpes and test your skills on the snowpark there.

For those who want to introduce their children to skiing, there are several great ski schools available. The large children’s skiing area is located at the top of the Telecentre lift at the Rond Point des Pistes. Some of the ski schools take 3 to 4 year olds, but the classes only last a couple of hours as to not overexert the children. Once your child reaches the age of five, most ski schools will take them for 3-hour lessons. If your child is under 3 it is sometimes possible to book private lessons for them. In addition, there is a nursery in the resort, that takes children from the age of two and a half.

Cross-country skiers can enjoy 50kms of well-maintained trails, whilst if you fancy a go of night skiing, there is a 1km run on the edge of the village that is lit up twice a week for a couple of hours.
