Why you should go on a corporate ski trip!

Ever been on a corporate ski trip? Here’s why you should think about organising one!

It’s likely that you haven’t been in the office for over a year at this point. There may even be new people in your team that you’ve never met face-to-face. Have you ever thought about a ski trip with your work colleagues? They're a great idea and have lots of benefits, but they also don't need to be a chore to organise.

Here are a few top tips from us when thinking about a corporate ski trip.

Length of stay

It’s probably not going to be possible to take your whole team out of work for a full week (although we wish we could!), we appreciate that. The general approach with corporate ski trips is to stay for 3 or 4 nights. Doing these over a 1 week period ie Saturday – Tuesday opens up a lot more accommodation options and keeps prices down. This would be the same amount of time off work as Friday – Monday. With the right flight times and resort, this would give you up to 3.5 days skiing.

Transfer times

As is the case with any shorter stays, corporate or not, we would recommend looking for resorts with a shorter transfer time. This means that you can really maximise your skiing time. Early flights on the first day and late flights on the last day, combined with short transfer times and private transfers mean with a 3-night stay, you could be looking at 3.5 days of skiing!

Some great options for shorter transfers are Chamonix, Les Deux Alpes, Flaine and Alpe d’Huez.

Self-catered or catered?

This is always something to think about with a ski holiday, and possibly even more so with a shorter stay. Whilst having B&B or half-board accommodation is lovely, with shorter stays it may not be the most cost-effective idea.

Self-catered accommodation gives you the cooking facilities to be able to cater for yourself. A quick run to the in-resort supermarket on the first day and you can be set for the whole time. Bread, pastries and cereal to create your own continental breakfasts are a cheap and easy way of fuelling your day. Cooking for yourself in the evenings is another great way of keeping the price down. Treating yourself to 1 night in resort is always a great way to explore. Staying self-catered also means you can eat whatever takes your fancy that day.

Self-catered apartments also give you communal areas (like the living area and kitchen) to socialise with the group.

There are many benefits to a corporate ski trip, so let’s look at some of them.

Motivation

The buzz around the office before a ski trip is huge. Finding out who’s going, discussing who’s going to be skiing or snowboarding, who’s in a room with who? As soon as the trip has been enquired about, excitement levels are high, with staff having something to look forward to (especially after this last year!).

Well-treated, rewarded staff work harder and are happier in their roles. We all know this. Whether this trip is a reward for hitting targets or just to acknowledge their hard work over this tough year, staff that feel appreciated will be happier, before, during and after the trip!

Team bonding

Going on a corporate ski trip with your colleagues is a great way to bond. From the plane journey to hitting the slopes together, ban the work chat and watch the rapport build! When you’re on the slopes, you’re all the same so it’s great to see Partners chatting away with office admin, something that may not normally happen in the office setting.

Of course, apres together is a sure-fire way to make memories and bond a team. Nothing creates team camaraderie like dancing on a table together drinking genepi! Just remember to hold your tongue about how you hate Sandra eating tuna sandwiches in the office!

Rapport and support built on the mountains, easily transfers to rapport and support when back in the office.

With the Get me to the Alps team organising your corporate ski trip for you, it doesn’t need to be stressful (or break the bank)! With different standards of accommodation available to suit all budgets, and the ability to fully cater the trip to the group's needs, we make your life as easy as possible. Creating a passenger list showing each traveller, their base price, any extras/deductions and their individual total price, we ensure that each person is only paying for the extras that they need. There’s the option of paying altogether or paying individually, via multiple methods, taking the stress away from the designated “group leader”.
