The best runs in Val Thorens

The Three Valleys ski area is so vast, to cover it all you’d need a whole season, before even looking at any off-piste! It can be quite daunting looking at the piste map for Val Thorens, where do you start? Which runs are the best for you? Luckily for you, we’ve spent a lot of time in Val Thorens and below we run through some of the runs which you need to try. Whether you’re still finding your ski legs, or are looking for something to test your technical ability, we’ll help you find exactly what you’re looking for. Here are our best runs in Val Thorens based on your standard.

Beginners Ski Runs in Val Thorens

Val Thorens is an excellent location for those first time boarders and skiers. In Val Thorens the beginner areas are in between the Roc, Cascades, and the 2 Lac lifts (this is where there are four magic carpets lifts) these gentle slopes are perfect for finding your feet. Cheval Blanc is a great accommodation for those who will be utilising these runs. Once competent (to an extent) there’s an easy transition to green ski runs.

The Cairn run towards Les Menuires is a lovely, wide ski run which isn’t too steep. Once down this run, you will find yourself in Boulevard Cumin, which although narrower is flatter. At the bottom of this run, you can then explore the calm blues around Masse 1, then get the Reberty and Bruyeres lift, where you have a choice of blue runs leading back to the resort.

Intermediate Ski Runs in Val Thorens

Once skiing at an intermediate level, you can pretty much explore all of the Val Thorens ski area. Confident skiers will enjoy the steeper slopes of Cime de Caron, at the base the Caron bubble then gives you excellent access the Boismint chair and several of the best reds in the Three Valleys. The excellent glacier runs can be accessed from the Col and Glacier ski lifts.

Expert Ski Runs in Val Thorens

One of the most challenging black runs in Val Thorens is the Combe de Caron. This beautiful black run is great for panoramic views and will test both technical ability and stamina, sloping first – it then follows a smaller neck. To reach this run, take the Cime Caron and enjoy the view of over 1000 summits – from the French, Swiss and Italian Alps. From this run, join the Col de L’Audzin red run.

Off Piste in Val Thorens

Val Thorens is one of the best places in the Alps to ski off piste and thousands of skiers enjoy the joy of fresh powder and a day away from the business of the lifts and runs. The Vallon Du Lou is a huge valley without any pistes or lifts. There are a number of routes down the valley, all of which reach the lake at the bottom. For those looking for something a little more moderate, the Pierre Lory itinerary is pretty easy, doesn’t take too long as isn’t too far away from the slopes.
