The benefits of skiing in March

March is probably one of our favourite times to go skiing, who doesn’t love a bluebird day?! Below we’ll look at some of the reasons why.

One of the biggest benefits of skiing in March has got to be the weather and the temperatures. With blue skies and the sun streaming down, you’re able to enjoy the freedom of undoing your coat or ditching it completely. Don’t forget to pack your sun cream in order to avoid those goggle tan lines! Take it from us, those tan lines can lead to some funny looks when you’re doing your shopping back in the UK…

Warmer temperatures of course bring different snow conditions. A common theme will be more compact snow in the mornings, which softens throughout the day as the sun heats it up. Softer snow is helpful for beginners and novices, providing a slightly comfier platform for any falls. This change in snow conditions throughout the day also helps develop your skiing skills and contributes to a more rounded skiing ability. Big snow dumps are also pretty common in March, so ski conditions often remain really good.

We all know that a ski holiday isn’t just about the actual skiing. Eating and drinking up the mountain and après all add to the true skiing experience. With the warmer temperatures of March, these activities get a lot more comfortable so pull up a chair, get yourself an Aperol Spritz, stick your sunnies on and soak up that sun!

Another huge benefit of skiing in March is that the majority of it (avoiding any Easter dates) is classed as low season, which means that it’s one of the cheaper times to travel. As well as the prices being lower, it’s also a quieter time. That’s not to say there’s no atmosphere, that’s definitely not the case, it just means that there are fewer children and families, and smaller lift queues!

When we are looking at March skiing, it is important to think about what resorts are most appropriate. At Get me to the Alps we have a strong understanding of resorts and their conditions, to help you make the right decision for your ski trip, so feel free to have a chat with us.
