Is Andorra a cheaper alternative?

Price is often a large factor when it comes to organising a ski trip and we appreciate that. Where you go can play a huge part in the price of a ski trip. Today we’re going to look at “Is Andorra a cheaper alternative?”.

Where is Andorra?

Andorra is a small country that sits between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains.

There are a few different ski resorts and ski areas within Andorra one of which is the Grandvalira ski area offering 210km of pistes across 6 different villages including Pas de la Casa, Soldeu and El Tarter.

Another ski area is the Vallnord Pal-Arinsal area which includes Arinsal.

Why is Andorra a cheaper alternative?

Andorra is often a great option to look at to see when you’re looking for a ski holiday to see if you can bring the prices down. There are various reasons why Andorra can be a cheaper alternative.

The flights

For Andorra, you need to fly into Barcelona or Toulouse. These flights are often cheaper than the main airports that you use for the big French resorts (Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon).

The accommodation

The accommodation in Andorra is largely hotels (although apartments are also available). You’ll often find that the accommodation in Andorra is a better price for a higher standard of accommodation. For example, a 4* hotel in Andorra may be similarly priced to 3* apartments in France. As options are often a hotel, you tend to not need to worry about people sleeping on sofa beds in the living area which can make it more appealing.

Similarly, catered options (B&B or half-board) are often much cheaper in Andorra than they are in France.

Resort prices

Probably the most noticeable aspect when look at “Is Andorra a cheaper alternative?” is the price of things once you get into resort. France is well-known for being expensive in resort. It wouldn’t be unheard of to pay €6 for a pint of beer or €9 for a spirit in a bar in France. In Andorra, you could be looking at more like €3 for a beer and €5 for a spirit. When on a skiing trip (we all know what happens…) this quickly adds up! There are also often really great happy hour deals that we’d definitely recommend taking advantage of.

Our suppliers

We work really hard with our suppliers to get you the best rates that we can for our customers. In light of this hard work, we get some really great deals and work with very small margins so that we can pass on to you!

We will highlight that Andorra isn’t always going to be a cheaper option. Particularly on peak weeks such a New Years, prices are going to be high wherever you go. Equally, if you were looking at a very basic studio apartment in a low down resort in France, but are then looking at a 4* hotel in Pas de la Casa, it probably will work out more expensive but you will be getting a higher standard.

We’d be more than happy to talk through any options (in Andorra or elsewhere!) with you so drop us an email at [email protected], use the chat feature on our website or request a quote and we can go through anything with you.
