Ski Holidays in Risoul 1850
Ski holidays in Risoul 1850 are a popular choice for family ski holidays, and there's good reason for that. It's not the largest of the French resorts so it's not the busiest and the pistes aren't packed full of skiiers, which is ideal for families keeping tabs on their younger children. It still does however, have a large ski area with 185km of pistes to explore, as well as many other in-resort activities to enjoy.
Risoul 1850 is a lovely picturesque village with traditional alpine-style buildings, surrounded by an impressive forest that gives you a real authentic feel of a winter wonderland. Away from the hustle and bustle of the larger crowded resorts, Risoul offers a haven to enjoy the mountains and to make special memories that will stay with the family for a long time.
Skiing In Risoul 1850
Sat at an altitude of 1850m Risoul is a quiet village in the heart of the Guillestrois, that is linked to Vars to form part of the Domaine de la Foret Blanche ski area. With 185km of marked pistes in total, the ski area offers plenty of variety for all abilities.
For beginners and families, it is ideal as the slopes tend to be quieter than larger resorts/ski areas and there are plenty of beginner / intermediate runs.
There is a dedicated area for beginners that doesn't require a lift pass whilst they find their ski legs. There's also a specific tobogganing area that kids will love!
For the more advanced there is a snowpark with boxes, rails, jumps and big airs.
The Southern Alps certainly get less snow than the Northen Alps however Risoul remains one of the most reliable in the area for snow cover. Risoul tends to have a good snow record eventhough it gets a lot of sunshine and the ski area is open from mid-December to early April.

This brand new (opening 2023) 4* MMV residence is in the family-friendly resort of Risoul 1850 and is ideally has ski in, ski out access. As it's brand new guests can expect modern and fresh apartments. A highlight of the residence is the spa area which has a large indoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, hammam and sauna.
Apres Ski In Risoul 1850
Risoul will suit families and couples rather than those looking for apres-ski and a party. However, there are still plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy in the resort as well as a couple of late night clubs.
But if, like many others, you are here with the family and not out for a party, there are plenty of lovely restaurants in Sainte Foy to visit. There is also lots of other activities to get involved in, be it skating on the ice rink, dog sledding with the huskies, snowtubing, the "Snake Gliss", paragliding, the Alpine coaster, the airbag amongst many other activities.
Transfers to Risoul 1850
There are no shared transfers to Risoul 1850 so the only way to get there is to either drive or get private transfers. Private transfers offer a door to door service and there's no waiting around at the airport. For groups of 8 (which is the sweet spot for minibus transfers) they will be pretty good value.
The closest airport is Turin in Italy but you could also fly into Grenoble or Chambery in France.
