Ski Holidays In Montgenèvre

Montgenèvre sits on the border of France and Italy giving the option of skiing in both countries, something very exciting to say about your ski holiday! Located just 1 hour 30 minute from Turin airport, its short transfer means that it's a firm favourite with families and those looking for a shorter stay. It's easily accessed by train (a change at Paris to local station Oulx, just 20 minutes away) so is a great option if you're looking to avoid flying.

The traditional mountain village is charming and authentically French, despite being just a stones throw from Italy!

Often recognised as one of the first French ski resorts, officially founded in 1907 when it hosted the first international ski jumping competition, skiing actually first started happening there in around 1895 when the military started using it for practices.

Skiing In Montgenèvre

The resort sits at a healthy height of around 1860m and the ski area heads even further up, reaching peaks of around 2600m. It boasts a record of around 300 sunny days a year as well as a good snow record (an average snow height of 1m at the bottom of the slopes), team this with the fact it's North facing and snow levels needn't be a worry here.

With a 6-day lift pass, you have access to 400km of pistes including Sauze d'Oulx and Sestriere in the Vialattea (Milky Way) area in Italy, as well as other French resorts such as Serre Chevalier, Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes. When you purchase a Mont de la Lune pass for 6 days or more you get 2 days in the Vialattea area preloaded on your pass and 1 day in the Grand Galaxy resorts. We can have organise taxis to the other resorts.

The Mont de la Lune pass itself has 91 pistes covering over 110km, served by 31 lifts. There are around 10 greens, 22 blues, 44 reds and 15 blacks. Combine this with a large designated nursery area so beginners don't feel trapped and a large off-piste area, all types of skiers are catered for in this magical resort.

The majority of the accommodation in Montgenèvre is self catered apartments, helping to keep the costs down with fully functioning kitchens. Most accommodations are very well located to the pistes making life much easier. With lots of large apartments, it's a great option for larger groups!

We recommend the following accommodation option in Montgenèvre -

Le Hameau des Airelles, click here for more information. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This 4* MMV residence is located in Montgenevre, within the Via Lattea ski area with 410km of pistes! The Hameau des Airelles residence is a ski-in residence with access to the slopes just 100m away so it's an ideal base to explore what the vast ski area offers. The apartments come with well equipped kitchens to comfortably stay self catered, or for guests that would prefer to have food included, there is the option to stay half board (breakfasts and dinners) or to just have breakfasts included. Meals are served in the partner restaurant l'Anova (100m from the residence).

Apres Ski In Montgenèvre

Montgenèvre isn't heavily known for its lively nightlife, being more of a choice for families and those looking to focus on taking advantage of the incredible pistes. There are of course bars and plenty of restaurants ranging from budget pizzerias to award-winning restaurants.

For the adrenaline junkies among us, why not try the Monty Express Luge? 1.5km down the mountain on a luge ride with a brake so you can go as fast or as slow as you like! Lots of fun, and open to all ages. With your 6-day lift pass, you get this at a discounted rate of €8.50! A bargain. Why not try it at night floodlit for even more excitement?

There's a outdoor ice rink located in the heart of Mongenèvre village and easily accessible from the slopes. With a very low cost of around €3 for an adult, it's a great option for any non-skiers or when the kids get tired and need a break!

Transfers to Montgenèvre

Getting to Montgenèvre isn't the easiest despite it being such a popular resort.

There are no shared airport transfers to Montgenèvre but private transfers are an option. This would be a door to door service and there's no waiting around at the airport. For groups of 8 (which is the sweet spot for minibus transfers) are pretty good value for money.
